Exceptions to the independence rule

If:

  • the external conditions are not changing very fast

  • or you need to do a punctual perfomance

then the independence rule might not allow you to optimize a process/system.

In the long run though, if need something robust, because the world is changing, then independence is the way to go.

See the dinosaurs: very performant whe the right conditions were met, but they did not survive a brutal disruption in the environment.

Independence is a great way to reduce complexity by splitting a big problem into smaller ones. cf. computer science.
